Welcome from the British Ambassador
British Embassy, 11/5/2020

Sir Nigel SheinwaldWelcome to, the official website of the British Government in the US. I hope that you will find here all the information you need about the UK, its people, its domestic policies, international affairs, government and economy, as well as practical information about travelling to Britain, including applying for British visas and passports.

I have been Ambassador in the US since October 2007, the 47th envoy since relations between our countries were established in 1791. It is a privilege to work in this country and to have the chance to contribute to the extraordinarily diverse relationship between us. The United Kingdom and the United States are strong allies and have stood side by side in many conflicts. The UK is the fifth largest economy in the world, is the largest investor in the United States and gives employment to over a million Americans. Nearly 40,000 Americans go to the UK every year to study.

This website is intended to provide easy access to information about all aspects of the UK, our services for British nationals and businesses, our offices in the US, answers to frequently asked questions, and more. If there is something you do not find, please let us know and we will try to help you.

I hope you enjoy visiting

Sir Nigel Sheinwald
